May! LOL

Whale Season makes March my choice. Also, March in Chicago is darn cold.

September is the hottest month. Yes, you can tell the difference! Shall I show you my A/C bills?

March will be more expensive.

You'll find better rates in September and May as well as fewer people. March still draws the spring break crowd and those escaping winter around the US. But as the other posters have said, the whales make it worth it to go in March.

March!!! Avoid the weeks before and after Easter (if Easter falls in March.) It's greener ... and there are whales.

Between March and September, I'd also pick March. And yes, it's because of the whales. Also the weather in September is just plain hot. This is when the trade winds back off a bit, we have higher humidity and vog can be present, depending on what the volcano on the big island is doing!!

Maui isn't so much a spring break destination, (like Florida, Texas or Mexico), but a winter get away. Like BLBL says, it's a lot greener than in September too.

I'd pick March because there will be bad weather in your area at that time.

Any month with a vowel is good.

Lots of whales in Jan/Feb/March but water can be colder.

Nice weather in October/November, the water is still warm, and the fares and hotel rates are good, but no whales.

September is cheaper and less crowded but if someone else is buying, I would take early March. Late March/early April will be busier with families and way more expensive.

Whoa! I would not jump to the conclusion that March is "way more expensive" than September. It might, and it might not. Avoiding Easter is key. You can find good deals on packages and other promotions.

I do like March but, if you are staying above Kahana it can get down right chilly and lots of rain...... or not. It is worth seeing the wales
