Kudos to Sheraton Maui

My DH and I are "stranded" here on Maui due to hurricane Irene closing NYC airports. The Sheraton has extended our stay in our original room which was an huge upgrade to begin with, at a special rate of nearly $100 off the lowest rate expedia had to offer! So here we are "stuck" on Maui in a gorgeous room with a view. Don't you all feel sorry for us???

Aloha,

Glad that you are stuck here and not in an airport along the way, Lob!

All the hotels and resorts managed by companies (not private parties or owners) have standing policies for this kind of thing. Depending on the company, they call it a "compassion rate", an "emergency rate", etc.

After 09/11, it got a lot of use...........I do mean A LOT.

Aloha,

No, Billy, there wasn't any need during the tsunami. Some people had to rearrange flights and such, but there weren't closures of airports like after 09/11.

The rates only go in when one is literally unable to get to one's destination.

Aloha,

No, the roads into and out of OGG were closed, but not the airport itself. The roads were reopened by about 10 AM.

hyperchickmom, hope you can just click your heels and say "there's no place like Maui" and you will get there in 29, er 28 days.
