Trip planning feedback

Hello all, my wife and I will be reaching Maui on 19th November for 7 nights. This is our first trip! We are staying in Kannapali.

I am looking for some feedback on my itinerary. We both enjoy outdoor things but are not a big snorkeler / swimmer.. Below is what we are thinking about..

Day 1 : Arrive in the evening. Light shopping at Costco. may be walk on the beach

Day 2: Haleakala National Park - sunrise, Lahina downtown in the evening

Day 3: Road to Hana

Day 4: Kehi - Snorkling than beaches in Kehi

Day 5: Kanapali beach, Black Rock, Honulua Bay , Sunset Cruise

Day6: Day trip to Lanai. Rented Jeep there so planning to go to Munro trail, shipwreck beach etc.

Day 7: Laze around in the morning. ziplining in the afternoon.

Day 8: May be Flee market, Lahaina downtown etc in the morning than fly backin the afternoon.

have we packed too much to do in 7 days?

Appreciate your response..

Doing Haleakala early in your trip is good; I would push the Road to Hana to later in your trip... both entail a lot of driving so it may be nice to have a break in between. (Unless you like driving! :) )

What may be too much for one traveler may be too little for another tourist.

The suggestion on splitting the drive is a good idea.

Don't forget to "let adventure happen" and do things spontaneously.

You have 3 straight days of traveling to the south part of the island. Haleakala, road to Hana and Kihei. You may want to mix it up a bit so you aren't on the road so much. Check the Lanai forum about the Munro Trail. I remember reading a trip report recently saying it's not in very good shape.

How about just making this a "plan"...plans can change, for some reason folks view "itineraries" as set in stone.

Everyone is right about far too many days of driving...split them up. Don't worry if "Island Time" hits and you decide to skip something. Nobody checking off the boxes but you.

Aloha,

The Munro Trail is closed, in fact.

I too would spread the drives out more.

If by "flee market" you mean the Saturday Swap Meet, remember it's in Kahului. You will be pushing your timing here, since check out at most places is 11 AM or noon.

Also, if you are shopping in Lahaina the morning of your departrue day(assuming you are doing this AFTER check out), you may be repacking your luggage! You could keep one of your carry on bags for the late purchases remembering that any liquids need to go in checked luggage.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. yes, this is more like a plan and nothing is set in stone..we will swap road to Hana for another day in the trip..

If Munro trail is closed is it worth going to Lanai and rent a Jeep?

Thanks again! we are so looking forward to our trip!

Aloha,

I'm not sure about hiking the trail, sorry!!! Maybe DrV or NatureCat will see this and chime in to give us the scoops.

Yes, I certainly think it's still worth it to go to Lana'i for a day.
