First Time Maui-Hotel/B&B/ Recommendations-Max 200/night

Hello-

It will be our first time in Maui- March 6-12, 2012- six nights.

We are looking for lodging and our max per night is 200.

We are renting a car

Our criteria:

-cleanliness

-updated interior (read people complaining about too "dated" rooms)

-comfortable bed

-sensitive to noise(not near busy roads/highway/thin walls)

-AC

-doesn't have to be on beach (but would like to hear ocean or be near it if possible)

-balcony (can be garden view or some ocean)-just not parking lot or road.

Hope it doesn't seem unreasonable, but we don't care about golf, hotel bars/restaurants, resort treatment/events, extra special details, etc...

We cannot do hiking or sun tanning or water sports, but like site seeing, sitting on a beach under umbrella with drinks, botanical gardens/nature, seeing a good luau, eating, and road trips.

Please advise, thank you!

Aloha,

I think your budget is too low.....March is a very popular time here. You might find some deals, but be careful. I'd look at condos rented by agencies first, to get a feel for prices and amenities.

On the South side, look at the units listed by Bello Vacation Realty; on the West side, try Whaler's Realty, Harris Property Management, Quam Properties, Kaanapali Beachfront Rentals, and Chasen Rainbows.

Prowling through these will give you a much better feel for prices, locations, amenities, and the like.

Hi-

Would 250 be a more reasonable budget for lodging?

Are there any big hotels you recommend?

Thanks!

Aloha,

For hotels, take a look at the Marriott Wailea, the Maui Coast, and maybe the Hotel Wailea (on the south side). The Makena Golf and Beach resort is another possible, down at Makena.

On the West side, look at the Hyatt, the Sheraton, Westin........but they're going to be $$$........condos on the West side are a better deal. Look at Maui Kaanapali Villas, Honua Kai, and the Mahana to start.

just my two bits but you're best to rent a condo and stay away from the hotels... simply because you can save a great deal by cooking some meals in... and it's nice to have space while in Maui...

Now if you're not into cooking at home then by all means a hotel would be the way to go.. I personally, in 13 trips, have never stayed in a hotel so can't recommend one.. but there are lots of experts on here that will be sure to help you there...

Like SW suggests, prowl around here and read all you can... it's the best info out there... and then you can narrow it down to where you'd like to be... have fun planning!

The Makena Resort is on a fabulous beach that meets your criteria, except that is isn't "updated". Personally, I'd rather stay in a quiet place withdated furnishings and a great beach and snorkeling than an updated place full of chinz fabrics and non-Hawaiian decor (Ritz, anyone?).

As SW said, Maui Kaanapali Villas, Mahana, and Honua Kai are all great condo options on the West side. Honua Kai is the newest condo resort in Maui (only 2 years old) so you won't have to worry about any of the units being "dated". You should be able to get a mountain/resort view for your $250/night price range. The other two you may have to be more selective to find a condo that has been updated. Mahana has great ocean front views from the rooms.

The Makena Beach and Golf Resort has been upgrading all their rooms for over a year now. I would assume most of them are done. Great hotel on one of the best beaches on Maui.
