Any new restaurants worth checking out?

We were last on Maui, last July. I was wondering if anything new has opened up that are worth a visit. Thanks!

Leoda's at Olowalu has opened. It had just opened and the servers were still learning.

The highlight of the food was the home made bread.

I agree with mamma on Teddy's. Very good burgers and the pineapple milkshake was so worth all the calories.

Ditto on Teddy's. Lot of food at reasonable pricing! If you're in Lahaina, drop in at Sure Thing Burgers, located next to Ululani's.

I think Monkeypod Kitchen by the Merriman's group is quite new, yes? It's just off S Kihei road and we dropped in for happy hour on our last full day. Good selection of tap beers and 1/2 price most appys/lower prices on their pizzas for happy hour. We enjoyed garlic truffle fries and a Margherita pizza with our beers - nicely done and good vibe - good live music and a view as well.

New to the Lahaina restaurant scene is Honu operated by the Elman family who own Mala next door, been twice and enjoyed each time. Although not new, Roy's has moved from Kahana to Ka'anapali and is still a good bet, was there opening night for the Maui No Ka Oi wine dinner which was excellent.

By the time you arrive, KO at the Fairmont Kea Lani will be open after a 5.1 million dollar reno. Mic Fleetwood is opening a new restaurant in downtown Lahaina, perhaps open by July. Five Palms opened a second location in Lahaina, was just OK on our one and only visit in Feb, much prefer their Kihei restaurant. Really looking forward to the Waterfront opening in its new Ma'alaea Harbor shops location, very likely open by July. Agree with Jim's rec for Leoda's, the newest addition to the Star Noodle (a real winner) and Aloha Mixed Plate ensemble.

I was thinking about stopping at Leoda's on the way from the airport to the condo, for lunch on arrival day. We might check out Honu, but we had a bad service experience at our last visit to Mala, so we're a little down on their restaurants. Probably worth a second chance.

Thanks for the great suggestions.

We also went to Monkeypod in Wailea three times in late February and liked it a lot. Probably a B+ on our scale for something different, reasonably priced and better than average food. Also liked the layout and atmosphere.

Although Japengo (at the Hyatt) has been open just over a year now, it is still considered "new". Had a very good experience here and plan on returning.

James Beard Award-winner Alan Wong of Oahu, is planning on opening his new restaurant Amasia at the Grand Wailea in May of this year, just in time for your visit.
