Depends on who you ask. Haven't done sunset but did enjoy the sunrise.

I've done both and like sunrise so much better. Thing is, if you want to go on your day of arrival, go!! In the long run as long as you go, when really doesn't matter.

We love sunset..but we stay until darkthirty to stargaze. We enjoy finishing a day on Maui with a sunset from the summit. We have seen some beautiful sunset and it's fun being above looking down at the colors.

It will be cold either time.

We actually went in the middle of the day and still felt that it was very nice plus it wasn't as cold and less traffic and people!

I loved both but if I had to choose only one I'd go for sunrise.

Rumor is people wrap up in hotel blankets for sunrise - oddly enough I'm more interested in getting a good view of the milky way at 3am or so in the inky blackness

Went to see sunrise twice but honestly I didn't "get It". Maybe because I am color blind but I honestly did not understand what was so amazing! I would have to seriously evaluate whether I would get up soooooo early and freeze and loose so much time before I would do it again. But then....dodging bicyclists on the way down is more fun than playing Space Invaders.

Both are good. But I felt very tired the rest of the day after sunrise.

After sunset the biggest problem was finding a nice place for dinner. That's

when we discovered the go to place was Hali'imaile General Store on the way back.

Either way dress warm it's like 4 degrees F drop per thousand ft.

We found sunset to be a much more intimate experience.... a few dozen people at most., compared to hundreds in the morning ... and if you wait a few minutes, you'll have the road down entirely to yourself...
