Your favourite book store and Hawaiian books

Looking for any hidden book stores, new and used on Maui, anywhere! I know Borders has closed, hoping Barnes and Noble is still making a go of it in Lahaina. Anyone know of some great second hand stores?

I am looking for books by Kristin Zambucka:

Princess Kai'ilunai of Hawaii

The Monarch's Last Hope

Ano' Ano, the Seed

The Fire Lady

The Mana Keepers

Kaumauali'i, King of Kauai

If you have some other suggestions, love to hear them too.

Thank you.

There is a used bookstore in Lahaina, but I don't remember the name.

you can try friends of the library, they used to sell all books for 10 cents each. I haven't been years to verify what they go at now.

Haven't been in the Barnes & Noble in Lahaina for a while, but I was very impressed with the selection at the B & N in Honolulu. Also, Long's has a good collection sometimes, and ABC Stores sometimes as well.

Personally, I would try Amazon.com. You can get used books from them as well.

Michener's Hawaii is a classic. I liked Molokai, but not Honolulu by Brennert. I have Kiana Davenport's "Song of Exile" staring me in the face here on my make-shift desk ... hmmm ... maybe I'll read that next.

Although I have walked by this place several times, we've never gone in ... we know our weaknesses and bookstores are probably #1.

konagirl, I own both of Brennert's books and have enjoyed them very much. Both of my daughters read them as well.

AliasMK, I actually browsed through Amazon this morning, but thought if I could get them there next month, I would rather wait. Also, I own "Song of Exile" and while it was good, I enjoyed her book "Shark Dialogues" a whole lot more. Amazing story!

QFOX, thanks for reminding about the library! My daughter used to work at the public library here, and they always have books for sale.

Shall check out the links next! Thank you again, Joan

I thought I had read that the Lahaina Book Emporium had closed and Jim Kingwell Island Art took over the space. It might be worth a call.

For books, I really enjoyed Mitchner's "Hawaii" and Julia Flynn Siler's "Lost Kingdom: Hawaii's Last Queen, the Sugar Kings and America's First Imperial Adventure". Lost Kingdom gives a good accounting of the end of the monarchy and all the different aspects that contributed to it. It's a great story.

Joan if you haven't read them yet check out "Heads by Harry" by Lois-Ann Yamanaka, there are 2 other books in the series but names escape me at the moment.
