Donna, I read your post as wanting a change of scenery ON Maui, correct?

Consider Hana, or perhaps Makena or Wailea. Take a look at the Hana Oceanfront Cottages, maybe the Hana Maui Kai, or down in Wailea the Hotel Wailea, in Makena the Makena Surf ($$$) or perhaps the Makena Golf and Beach Resort.

Another option would be the quirky Paia Inn or Mama's Fishhouse cottages (sometimes called Mama's Inn).

Well I would just move a little north to Napili...really gorgeous aand lush. You could also head south.

I'm not a huge fan of wasting part of a day traveling for only 3 days on another island.

Donna - have you been to Hawaii before? What islands have you visited?

We have been to Hawaii once before in 1993.

We went to Oahu, Hawaii and Maui then,

This time we were thinking of going from Maui to Kauaii but airfares made that real expensive which is why we were thinking of staying somewhere else on Maui for 3-4 days additional either before or after Kaanapali. Just want to make the trip from the East Coast worth it - and a week is not enough

Just looking for a different atmosphere. Looked at Mamas and it loosk very nice - is there enough going on around there to see, do relax for 3 days?

Mama's is a great location for touring Upcountry/Haleakala and the Road to Hana. It's just east of Paia, a funky little surfer town.

You can explore that area from Ka'anapali as well - so I think three days would work. Ir's always a tough question, because once you settle in, you realize that you don't want to leave anyway.

How are you flying to/from Hawaii -- via HNL? Would you want to end the trip on Waikiki or at Turtle Bay on Oahu? If you are just a couple, consider a hotel in South Maui. If you are a family, plan four nights in a South Maui condo. I'd say the same if you want to go north to Kapalua.

We are 2 adults. Not sure where flights will go through - depends on the best airfare,
