There will be wind everywhere some days, some different times of days. The wind isn't a bad thing... keeps people cool! When the winds are not blowing, it can be very uncomfortable there. Makes for great sailing too!

Even the malls are built so that you are walking outside from store to store, not closed in. That allows the breeze to go through.

Are you wanting to do a specific activity so that it isn't windy? Or just looking for a place to stay with no wind?

There is nowhere on Maui that is immune to the wind. There are a few places where it's windier than most others. Maalaea would be an example of that.

Trade winds are a fact of life in Hawaii. Hawaii is actually on the same latitude as the Sahara Desert. If it weren't for the trade winds that bring trade showers, well, it would also be a desert.

At least it's a warm wind, not like the cold wind we get here on the Oregon coast! (:

I'll take a Maui wind any day.

Aloha,

Yep, it was windy ALL over Maui yesterday. I was in Central Maui in the morning, had to wear leg weights....then back over to the West side, later--yep, windy there too.

This was forecast and mentioned on the news--not a surprise!

The late afternoon and evening calmed down a ton and were lovely when I was out at dinner with friends.

you just adapt your schedule around the wind. Don't go to the beach if it's windy as you will be sandblasted, ahhh exfoliated :) Generally the beach is good in the mornings, then take a break in the early afternoon, you're probably good around 4 again. What to do in the afternoon - well, it's probably a good idea to take a break from the sun beating down on you (did I mention HIGH UV index?). Take a drive, go shopping, do some touristy stuff, hang at the pool (if you must), take a nap.

Aloha,

Mauioceanview, your advice is very true for Kihei--not so much for the West side most of the time.

On the West, the wind rarely comes up much before 4 or so--it's one of the biggest reasons the snorkel trips on this side leave around 9-10 or so!
