Last minute first time in Maui trip - Wailuku/Lahaina hostel

Last minute decided to leave for Maui tonight and I'm wondering if I should consider Wailuku Banana Bungalow hostel for there free tours - not into partying but I've read they might be dirty, bedbugs, noisy and bad area. The snorkeling and hiking tour sounds interesting.

I wouldn't be able to rent a car since it's too last minute. Does anyone has good tour recommendation for Road to Hana.

Lahaina is more walkable and accessible to the beach.

Not into partying. Where would you recommend I stay?

Don't know much about the hostels but I would not stay in Wailuku, especially without a car...nothing there to see/do.

You will need to book a shuttle to which ever place you decide to stay.

Valley Isle is a great Hana tour.

I wouldn't stay at either but if I had to choose it would be the hostel in Lahaina because you will at least be close to the beach.

Where might you consider staying than that isn't too expensive?

Aloha,

Take a look at Lahaina Last Resort. It will prob be a great fit for you.

Stay away from Banana Bungalow.............FAR away.

Unless you are on a direct to Maui, I would consider Oahu, since they have great public transportation. :)

What is wrong with Banana Bungalow? They offer free tours that'll simplify the decision making process of what to do....

I'll be in Oahu in 2 weeks. Haven't decided what to do then too but I might rent a car for a day probably. I'll have to ask on the other forum which hostel might be reasonable.....

I would choose some where in Lahaina or Kaanapali if I didn't have a car . . . you don't want to be stuck up in Wailuku . . .

Would check out Maikai Inn or Kaanapali Ocean Inn.

<<What is wrong with Banana Bungalow?>>

I've heard some pretty awful stuff about this hostel. The tours are a positive, though no refunds if you find it lives up to the unsavory reputation. And this may be a good location to meet Mr. pakalolo ... but other than that, this place is downright creepy. The positive reviews are likely written by single review posters -- sort them by negative down, or read some of the negatives written on yelp.. Do you honestly want to stay here??

Where? Kaanapali Ocean Inn, Maui Beach (Kahului), Days Inn (Kihei) -- I really think you'd be better off popping up a tent at Olowalu.
