This in the Maui News today:
This means that Roberts Hawaii now has a monopoly on airport transfers and the bus system.
For those of you who remember "Shoreline Bus Service", owned by the Fleming family, you will remember
how Roberts started picking up the PUC licensed Shorelines clients at the bus stops by driving their buses ahead of the blue Shoreline buses. After Shoreline closed down there was no public bus for about 15 years and visitors needed to book tour buses and vans to see more of Maui. The residents had nothing.
Generally when you allow a monopoly you eventually get increases in fees charged to the customer or a change in service.
Yep, Roberts gets their revenge on SpeediShuttle for taking HNL away from them. This is going to be interesting.
As a side note, it's always surprising how many people think they have to take only the "official" shuttle.
