Pearl Harbor

We are staying in Maui, but would like to visit Pearl Harbor. How do we go about that?

Thank you.

You can fly over in the early morning hours, rent a car, go to Pearl Harbor, perhaps even see Waikiki or other areas of the island then fly back to Maui on an evening flight. If you want to see the USS Arizona Memorial, get your free tickets in advance, on line. There is a processing fee of 1.50 per ticket. This way you will be guaranteed to get in.

And the sooner you buy the airline tickets, the cheaper it will be! They only go up in price it seems, the closer you get to departure date.

Just checking ... are you perhaps flying in to or out of Honolulu from the Mainland? Or do you have a direct flight to Maui?

HI,

Flying directly into Maui.

I went online and found through Expedia to fly from Kahului to Honolulu for about $150.00. I guess rent a car there and then fly back out that evening. I think this is cheaper than a tour.

Do you have any other suggestions?

Thanks for any help you can pass on. It's our first visit to Hawaii. Can't wait!

Doing it yourself will not only be cheaper, it will be nice, because you are in control! You go where you want, when you want. Some of the tours drop you off in Waikiki for a couple of hours to go shopping.

There is the HUGE swap meet very close to Pearl Harbour, but you may want to spend your time elsewhere. After Pearl Harbour, you may want to drive up to Punchbowl. Very peaceful place. There is the amazing view as well.

And then there is Iolani Palace, or the Bishop Museum.

You may even want to hop over to the Oahu forum and ask there for some ideas for a day trip.

It's a long day - but worth it. You'll want an early morning flight to Honolulu from Maui ... and getting to the airport will take time, as will airport processing. Once in Honolulu, you'll want to pick up a car at the airport - reserved in advance. Drive to Pearl Harbor ... and make your reservations for the Arizona Memorial now. Now. http://www.nps.gov/valr/index.htm

Spend as long as you want at Pearl Harbor - then see the sights in Honolulu or drive around Oahu ... gorgeous. End with dinner on Waikiki.

The problem with a tour is that they will dictate how much time you spend at Pearl Harbor ... probably just enough for the Arizona Memorial. You don't want them to call the shots. There is SO much to see and do at Pearl Harbor ... you want the freedom to explore at your own pace. You are going to alot of extra trouble and expense to get to Oahu ...

And you DO NOT want to fly any other airline than Hawaiian Airlines.
