Hotel suggestions Maui

Hi all

My partner and I are looking to do a multi trip from the uk next may and take in LA, Hawaii, San Fran.

We are looking at Maui as we love to snorkel and are looking for a hotel base on or very near a good beach.

Has anyone done this type of trip and can make any recommendations?

Regards

I use this website for comparing resorts in Maui. Great tool!

Combination trips are probably quite popular. One suggestion would be to not try to fit too much into a short time, and if possible, allow a week on Maui. In May, Kaanapali area would be a good choice. Will you be renting a car?

I also think you should try for a 7 days on Maui not 5 it's still a long flight even from the West Coast.

Besides looking in the Ka'anapali resort area you could look at Maui Ka'anapali Villas and the Royal Lahaina Resort which are still technically Ka'anapali but a little more north and on a great beach with good snorkeling Kahekili Beach.

Down south in Makena check out the Makena Beach Resort on another great snorkeling beach Malu'aka.

Are you planning on renting a car?

You might want to consider a condo for your stay, having a kitchen and washer/dryer can really be a help. For ideas look at the Aston Maui Kaanapali Villas, and also Honua Kai and Westin Kaanapali Ocean Resort Villas...the last two are condos with full resort amenities.

A nightly budget would help us point you in the right direction. FYI May is a lovely month to visit!

The Honua Kai has beautiful rooms. This is a beautiful property which is oceanfront, has wonderful pools and a restaurant on-site. They have recently added a new spa also. Aloha and enjoy your time on Maui! :)

IMHO the best hotel on Maui, located on a great snorkeling and swimming beach is the Makena Beach and Golf Resort in Makena. It's located in south Maui.

Another vote for Makena Beach Hotel. Quiet resort located on a great beach both for swimming and snorkeling.

Makena itself is peaceful and quiet, but it is only a short drive away to Wailea and Kihei, where you will find lots more nice sandy beaches, and lots of wonderful restaurant choices.

We see a lot of people from the UK going to LA -- while most people from LA are escaping as often as they can to Maui! (San Francisco is another thing altogether.)

What's the lodging budget? If you'll be in hotels elsewhere, you might enjoy 'home from home' in a condo on Maui. I prefer 'the ends' of the island over Kaanapali area. That would be Napili and Kapalua in West Maui and Wailea/South Kihei in South Maui.

If you plan to tour the island's major sights, that's more easily done from South Maui -- less distance and four lane highway all the way. May is lovely all over the islands.

Hi guys

Thanks for all your help so far. We have been researching and once again need your opinions and advice.

We really like the sound of the Makena beach and golf resort especially the location being a bit more remote and the beach snorkelling.

The only issue is that it's around £400 or $600 more expensive than some other resorts that look ok but not fab. The other resorts are Royal Lahaina and Kaanapali Beach Hotel.

Is it worth paying the extra to be on Makena or is it possible to use that beach even if not staying at the resort? Has anyone had any experience of the other resorts mentioned or can recommend any others.

We are looking for a more modern resort on or near a good beach. We are hiring a car and are staying for 7 nights.

Any helps as always is much appreciated.
