Kamaole Sands Building #8, Unit 403

We're considering this unit for our first trip to Maui with our 2 daughters, ages 6 & 7, my mom & grandma. Does anyone have any experience at this resort, this building and/or this particular unit? Any input is greatly appreciated. Here's a link to the vrbo listing:

We'd like easy beach access and 2 bedrooms. Looking for $250/night or less.

Thanks!

We have stayed at KS a number of times and you will love it. I don't know if it matters to you, but I think there are some 2 bedroom condos in this complex where it is all on one floor. I don't know if Grandma would want to go up and down those stairs all the time(or for that matter if you want your kids too)

Thanks. How about beach access at this place? When I look on Google Earth I'm a little concerned about crossing what looks like a busy street (S Kihei Road I think?) - is it easy to walk to the beach from here?

You literally only have to cross the road and you will be at the beach. It's a really good swimming beach too. The road is very busy though, so you would need to keep your children close while crossing. We love Kamaole Sands and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. It's an older complex, so you need to be careful of the unit you choose. Some look very dated while some have been nicely renovated.

My honest opinion is that you could do much better at KS on a budget of up to $250 (in comparison to the listing for which you provided a link). You can do better on both the quality of the unit and the location of it within the complex (and for views). As a previous poster mentioned, there are some 2-bedrooms on a one-floor plan.

Personally, I would never stay on a ground floor unit at KS. I've seen lots of children running around out front of the units and it could be disruptive to anyone wanting a quieter holiday. However, with small children you may prefer ground floor so that they can walk straight out from the lanai and have lots of space to play where you can keep your eye on them.

My hesitation with this nice-looking unit would be the location of Building 8 in the complex. Buildings 4, 8, and 9 are not part of the "horseshoe" surrounding the nice pool and lawn area. Building 8 sits at the back of the complex next to a parking lot. It would be a pretty long walk, IMO, to Kam III beach. Otherwise the location of Kam Sands is excellent, close to shops, restaurants, and some of Maui's best beaches.

I'm not good at posting links, but do a google search for "aerial view Kamaole Sands" and you will be able to see the layout.

We were there maybe 9 years ago in Building 6 toward the back.. We usually just drove as we always took chairs and coolers etc.. Walking with them and trying to mind the kids would have been a bit much. Our unit was very nice, but the others that we were with got one that was not nearly as nice. At the time my only critique was the pool area. It is/was not really resort-like. The Kam beaches are very nice with kids though IMO.
