Staying in kihei, affordable way to see Pearl Harbor?

We want to stay in kihei for week in December 2014, never been to Hawaii before. Is there an affordable way to take a day trip to go see Pearl Harbor and the USS Missouri and Arizona memorial? Expedia has a "tour" but it is $362 per person, just wondering if anything more affordable thanks

If Pearl Harbor is your focus stay on Oahu. With only a week on Maui a day trip is just not advisable.

Pearl Harbor not main focus, just thought if it was maybe affordable to do a day trip tour while we were there.

You could just book an interisland flight on Hawaiian Airlines - Pearl Harbor is close to HNL so you could take a cab over or rent a car for the day. It takes about a half-day to see Pearl Harbor so if you want to make a day out of it rent a car and see Waikiki Beach as well.

I bet you will be returning to Hawaii! Plan a trip with some time on Oahu to and see Pearl, Punchbowl, Iolani Palace, Bishop Museum -- and beautiful, tropical Oahu beyond the pretty city on its southern shore.

Check out the price for the earliest flight from Maui, and the last flight back from Oahu. Don't forget that the price just gets higher and higher as time goes by. Then add in the cost of the rental car for a day. Tickets can be reserved ahead of time, just $1.50 for processing fee. Then multiply it by how many are going.

Remember that December is super busy, unless you are going early in December?

Bus would be an option from the airport, but time consuming. With the car, you can see a whole lot more during the day there.

Being on the west coast, you are close enough to Hawaii, that you will most likely be planning the NEXT trip to Hawaii before you even get on the plane to return home. I'd wait for another trip! Too much on Maui to enjoy, and a week is never enough!

Depends on what you consider affordable you can fly roundtrip for about $170 a person and take the bus from HNL or rent a car but there is no cheap way.

I happen to think if you have the money and you can fit it in, it's a "must do" for any US citizen when coming to Hawaii. Nothing guarantee's that you will be back!!

The cheapest way to go is get an early morning flight out of Maui to HNL. Get a taxi or public transportation to Pearl Harbor. It's less than a 15 minute drive. Then get an evening flight back to Maui. The tickets out to the USS Arizona Memorial are free. That said, it's best to get advance tickets on line. There is a 1.50 per person processing charge. You can buy tickets to go out to the Missouri when you get there.

If you want to spend the day on Oahu, that is also possible. Just rent a car go to Pearl Harbor in the morning then you will have plenty of time to either see Waikiki or even a north shore tour before returning to Maui in the late evening hours.
