There are only two car rental places on Molokai. Alamo is up at the airport and Island Kine is located in Kaunakakai. I believe Island Kine will be your best bet. They will pick you up and take you to their location in Kaunakakai.

Aloha,

And again, I have written TA and asked them to examine the two posters' history. For those who don't know, multiple screen names usually hurt ya........they can get you banned totally.

Thanks, Dolphindoodle! We're looking forward to it - have been to the other islands a bunch of times, and have wanted to check out Molokai for a while now. Wish we had more than a day to do so, but hoping to get a nice overview!

Molokai was beautiful; a pleasant place to spend a day. We'll go back for a few days in the future, I think, to see more. The East end is particularly gorgeous! We didn't get to the West end at all.

Island Kine was OK - the Jeep Wrangler we rented was pretty rattly and I wondered if it was going to hold up for the day... But it did, and we saw some very nice areas.

I think that they were a little dishonest about gas - the rental agent told us that the fuel gauge needle was "just below full, but that means the tank is full." So we thought that having the needle between 3/4 and 7/8 of a tank meant a full tank. Once I filled the tank at the gas station, the needle went to full and a little beyond with no problem - so the tank was certainly not full when they gave us the vehicle.

It's less than a $10 difference, but still, I can't help but think that they knew this. So it makes you wonder - would they really try to take me for 2 gallons of gas? Or was it just an honest mistake? Maybe at $5 a gallon, they have to make ends meet some way - I didn't bother asking.

The rental agents were otherwise very nice, and they provided transportation to and from the pier for the ferry as promised. I figured that the extra $ for gas was a tip for the shuttle service... So all in all, it was a good day!

Glad you had a good time on Molokai! We had the same problem a few years ago when we rented from Island Kine. We gased up just before returning the car. They said that the tank wasn't completely full, so my husband went ALL the way back downtown and put more gas in, 97 cents worth! They said that the tank may have not registered completely full because it was on an incline on the hill. Left a bad taste in my mouth. We come every year so invested in a used pickup truck so we don't have to deal with car rental anymore. Sorry that this happened to you.
