Hotels - Resorts near U of Hawaii-Manoa

My son will be attending the U of Hawaii at Manoa

for the next 2 years. We plan to visit as often as possible. Where is the closest Hotel/Resort? We prefer 4 star or better

For 4 stars and up you should stick with staying in Waikiki especially if you like the variety of restaurants available. Maybe stay at Hilton Hawaiian Village at the "north end" (commonly refered to as towards Ewa as opposed to towards Diamond Head) of Waikiki, that way you can go on McCully, Kapiolani, University, Dole and you are at UH. If you stay at the Diamond Head end, you can go up Kapahulu to University -- maybe the W Hotel, but that is a little outside Waikiki center. Waikiki is a little busy but it is only about 3 miles from UH.

A less hectic option would be Kahala Hotel and Resort which is about 5 miles from UH. But depending on how long you are visiting, you might want to go into Waikiki for more food offerings.

UH is in a residential area in Manoa Valley and the closest hotels are in Waikiki.

There are many 4 star hotels to choose from. Check price of parking as there is no street parking to speak of in Waikiki.

..... or maybe, Manoa Valley Inn, Hawaii's Country Inn, only a small block away from UH campus, block away from TheBus into Waikiki.

The Manoa Valley Inn has seven special spacious suites and a charming country cottage. It is non-smoking and includes continental breakfast and parking starting from $89 to $190 per night.

Go to website: www.manoavalleyinn.com or email at manoavalleyinn@aloha.net.

I have been there numerous times for functions and have enjoyed the spacious home and gardens.

Waikiki is only 2-3 miles from Waikiki.

You have a much better choice of hotels or condos in Waikiki.

Lots of info:

Staying in Waikiki is your best bet. On the high end you have the Halekulani (stay there at least once! It is worth it) and on the more moderate, but still great you have the Moana Surfrider, New Otani Kaimana Beach Hotel, Ourrigger Waikiki. And then youhave the major chains that are all nice, 4 star, Hyatt, Marriott & Embassy Suites.

Once you have gone once or twice and feel moe local you might want to switch to condos. www.vbro.com is a great place to find local condos for rent.
