You can take TheBus. Know that it's a looong ride. Also, take note of when TheBus will take you back to Waikiki.

You can follow the routes on this system map.

For example, follow the #2 route from Waikiki to School Street & note where Kapalama Street is. That's where you will get off & walk a few blocks to Bishop Museum.

45 minutes to get there. Buses run 10 - 15 minutes apart. I don't think that is a very long bus ride. No transfer needed.

You can stop at Chinatown/Aloha Tower/Iolani Palace on the way back to Waikiki.

You could also have lunch at Helena's on School Street. Only a few blocks from Bishop Museum. Walk back to School Street, make a right. Helena's is about 2-3 blocks. Good Hawaiian food.

I'm sure all you have to do is call a cab. Make sure you have a couple of cab company phone numbers with you.

Probably $20 - $25.

Not important to all the California posters....

Who make up the entire universe of non-locals who have responded to this post.

But, if you are reading along out there, the best Mexican Restaurant in the islands is close-by the Museum as well.

Just across the street from Helena's is the "Mexico Restaurant" (great name, huh). Fantastic carnitas, seafood dishes and fajitas. The margaritas are to be feared.
