Depends on a lot of things...like your budget, what you like to do, house/condo/hotel, will you be working and need to commute or is this purely vacation.

A little more information and the regular posters will give you lots of suggestions.

This is the best place to look at condos.

Any condo listed will be in reasonably safe areas.

If you find a complex you like, then go to vrbo.com to look for rentals in the building.

Will you need it to be convenient to transportation and shopping? Do you like city, suburb or country?

Modest budget means different things to different people. Rent and utilities on Oahu are expensive. Will need more info to help you.

Would you rather be in the city or more of a neighborhood setting?

If you want a quieter setting, take a look at the Kailua/Lanikai/Waimanalo area. There is limited condo availability, but lots of houses near the beach. If you're willing to sign for 3 months, you'll have some negotiating power. Check vrbo.com for houses. Utilities are usually included with these. Kailua is about a 20-30 minute drive from Honolulu in a more scenic part of the island. If you're retired, this may be appealing, as it is a laid back area. If you'd rather be in Honolulu, Scott's condo website is a good place to start. A lot more action, but a lot more in the way of crowds. Just depends what you like and what you're looking for.

If you've never been to O'ahu, you'll want a car for at least some of the time to explore; although, with 3 months, you'll be in no hurry and the TheBus system is first rate if you'd rather take public transportation.

If you throw out the exact dollar range you are willing to pay, and what are your spatial demand (bedrooms, baths or studio), we can give you a great idea of what is available to you.

Rents here are the highest on average for a metropolis in the US, and supply is limited.

It is likely you can get a handle on what is available in about half an hour, and then choose from the alternaives, instead of learning about every area from scratch.

VRBO is a great resource, but would view you as a long-term transient renter, with higher such pricing.

I would look at Craig's List, the best resource for residential renters, with lower prices. And at a three-month stay, you are just a shorter resident, not transient, tenant.

I stayed for six months last year at 1350 Ala Moana, found it through VRBO. Great location.

Are you only interested in staying on Oahu? I'm just wondering if you'd enjoy another island. (We spend six weeks in South Maui in winter.)
