Which part of Oahu to stay?

We will be traveling to Hawaii in July 2013 and have decided to stay on Oahu for our 10-12 day trip. My husband and I (in our 50s) have been to Oahu twice (stayed in Waikiki both times) and Maui twice. This time our adult children (all in upper 20s) and two grandbabies (under 1 year) will be along.

We want to rent a condo or home somewhere quieter than Waikiki but we plan to visit the Arizona Memorial, Diamond Head (at least part of the group minus babies will do the hike). Also, some are interested in water sports - something a little more active than just beach time. We will eat in some and go out to dinner some. With that in mind, would you recommend a stay in Kailua, the North Shore, or some other part of Oahu?

Kailua! See vrbo.com or similar for lodging. You will need a rental car.

But you really should look into The Breakesr in Waikiki. Great place for a family group. Old school Hawaiiana. Calm, peaceful. Limited free parking.

Have a great visit~~~~~~~~~~

Kailua, Hawaii Kai, Portlock, Aina Haina and Kahala would all be good.

All of scott's suggestions above are good. You will have many more options with a Kailua/Lanikai search. July is a great month on the windward side, as it is a bit cooler than the Hawaii Kai area. The trip over the Ko'olaus from Kailua is only 20-30 minutes and the north shore is easily accessible.
