Thanks Dusty, I had read the pages you listed, just seeing if there was anyone on this forum who had personal tips/sites ordering spots.

Read about the beaches and select the one(s) you want to visit on the North Shore. Make the beach your first stop, nice and early, so that you can get parking. One of the favorites is Waimea Beach. Beautiful blue water and very scenic. You may also want to stop at the turtle beach and see the turtles. For lunch go to Haliwea for amazing burgers at Ku Aina or great Thai food at Opals. Shave ice is a must. You can get that at Aoki's, which will have shorter lines than Matsomotos. After shave ice you can walk around and visit the shops.

For a nice afternoon stroll, go to Waimea gardens. There is an entrance fee. The gardens are beautiful and the walk will take you to a beautiful waterfall.

For a great oceanfront Mai tai, go to the Turtle Bay Resort's Hang Ten Bar, which is oceanfront and next to the pool.

Another lunch option is driving to the shrimp trucks.

I recommend a full day on the North Shore. Save another day for the east side , know as the "windward side". See the driving tours thread and see which one suits you best.

What do you want to do? Are you looking for beaches to hang out on? Or something like Kualoa Ranch with a broad range of activities? Waimea Valley for a nice walk to a water fall?

Your timing will depend on where you want to stop and eat.

Do you have a good map? Any questions about what you see?

You'll be driving from Waikiki? I like to head over the Pali. The stop there for the views is a definite "must-see!" then down the mountain (wheeee!) to the Kaneohe/Kailua area (watch map carefully) - then up the east coast, turning on to the north shore ... stopping whenever you want. Don't make the Dole Plantation a priority! It's great for a potty stop and refreshment - but in general is a major tourist trap.

At the end of Driving tour #2, there are some links. I just replaced the Honolulu Publishing link to their new one. It has driving tours and maps.

This is the new one:

hawaiidriveguides.com/OahuDriveGuide/index.h…

You can pick up the hard copy magazines when you get there.
