driving to north shore on saturday - traffic?

We will be changing hotels and driving from Ilikai to Turtle Bay on Saturday 9/7. Will probably get out of Waikiki around 11:00 am. Will there be less traffic if we take windward route along the coast vs going straight up the center of the island? The plan is to take a leisurely drive and maybe stop at Byodo-in Temple and Haiku Gardens along the way. Much thanks for all the great info on these boards!

If you have luggage, make sure you leave it in the trunk if you are making stops. Don't open the trunk at any stops.

There will not be much traffic if you take the windward side (unless there is road construction).

The one major delay on the North Shore is at Laniakea Beach which is between Haleiwa and Waimea Bay. And it only adds about 10 minutes or so. But coming from the Windward side, you won't go past there.

I think you are choosing the best route to get there.

Take Likelike Highway.

If you have not stopped at Pali Lookout, take Pali Highway instead of Likelike Highway. Stop at Pali Lookout.

Read the Top Question on the right. Driving tours. You'll be taking part of Driving tour #2. to get to Turtle Bay Resort.
