A Fallen Soldier Returns: Sort of puts it all in perspective. I mean, fastest way to get to my hotel? The best tower? Which tour? Anyway, Just a way off topic thought. Chuck.

1. Re: Perspective

Chuck, I'm with you.

As a fellow Vietnam Vet, I know what you mean as far as putting it in perspective.

The Fallen Soldier Returns thread probably won't last long until it is zapped as not being travel related (this thread may also get zapped).

But I just had to start the topic when I saw the story, A Fallen Soldier Returns , even though it is not really travel related.

And it probably changed every traveler on that flight, don't you think? Can't get any more travel related than that!

4. Re: Perspective

Well, before this thread gets zapped, let me add a remembrance.

In 1968, I was selected to escort a soldier, fallen in Vietnam, from Ft. Lewis to Roseburg, Oregon. They tried to match the rank, MOS, Vietnam experience, home state, etc. in making the escort selection. That was me. I was proud to do it.

The hardest part was trying to explain to family and friends at the funeral home that the remains were not viewable. Next hardest was presenting the folded flag to the grieving mother "on behalf of a grateful nation".

I am happy to report that that 20 year old infantry soldier got a respectful burial!
