Question about the easiest way to go into Honolulu

We are staying on the North Shore, but want to go visit a couple of sights in and around Honolulu including the USS Arizona Memorial. We will have a rental car, but I'm concerned about the traffic and finding parking. Would it be easier to try and take public transport into the city? What would be the best way to get around? Thanks for your help.

Aloha,

You would be doomed if you took The Bus.

Since the traffic is bad during the week, can you go on a Sat.or Sun. ?

Try to get your tickets online if you have not already.

The traffic going into town gets a little better around 9am.

Have a great time,

Aloha

Use the rental car. The Bus is super slow. Takes two hours to get to Honolulu vs 1 hour by car.

Parking is free at the Pearl Harbor Visitors Center.

And from there, you can go to other attractions easily.

Directions to Pearl Harbor Visitors Center:

www.nps.gov/valr/planyourvisit/directions.htm

Traffic is bad in Honolulu during morning and evening rush hour.

But coming from the North Shore, you will miss most of it. Not a lot of traffic on H-2 toward H-1 (unless there is an accident). It is only about 5 miles from H-2/H-1 East exit from H-1 Exit 13A.

www.nps.gov/valr/planyourvisit/directions.htm See the directions for Travel from North Shore.

Read the Top Questions on the right side of the page. Driving tours, websites, maps, etc.

After USS Arizona Memorial, you can continue taking Driving tour #3 through Honolulu.

Then take Likelike Highway or Pali Highway back to Kaneohe & then to the North Shore.

On a different trip to Honolulu, you can take Driving tour #1 to Kaneohe and then to North Shore.

Order the free travel planners for Hawaii and the Island of Oahu. You can also read them online.

If you do not have reservations for USS Arizona Memorial, you can make them in advance. Tickets are free, but $1.50 service fee if you make them in advance. Otherwise, you'll need to get there by 6:30 am or so to get walk-up tickets.

You might want to preview what awaits you, at various time of day, prior to your trip via Traffic Cams.

This one covers the area where things will possibly begin to get worrisome:

www1.honolulu.gov/cameras/pearlcity/index.htm (just click on a "C", then scroll down the page).

You can select cams closer to Waikiki by using the Index categories appearing at the top of the map.
