Morocco Late November - Driving in Atlas Mtns

We plan to visit Morocco in late November, early December with our two children ages 12, 14. We plan to stay in Marrakech for 3 nights upon arrival. Does anyone have a sense for driving/weather conditions to Aït Benhaddou and the towns/villages near the Sahara. Is it difficult to drive over the pass to Ourazazate (spelling!)?

Our other potential route would take us to Essaouira and to Taroudant.

We have a total of 8 nights in Morocco. This is our second visit to this wonderful country, last time we stayed in Meknes - which I highly recommend for a terrific Medina experience.

Many thanks to all who respond!!

It is worth checking the weather forecast nearer the time, however the weather last year was ok at this time.

The road to Ouarzazate, including the Tizi n Tichka pass is twisty as well as down and up (a bit like a rollercoaster!). The road is narrow in places with tight turns around high mountain edges. Whether you will find this difficult will depend on your driving experience.

Last year there was snow so driving thrth the Tizi-n-tichka pass will be tight; from Ait Benhadou to the desert will be easy to drive; the road is fine.

take a bus/frand taxi to Ouarzazat then hire a car ...you can make it from Marakech ; but put attention when you drive there.

It will be like driving through some of the state roads in the mountains in the US. It isn't all that challenging as long as there isn't any snow. If snow is forecast, I would not attempt the trip. They also close the road when the snow is particularly bad. I have driven it once in the snow - won't do it again.

Sorry I forgot to address the second part of your question. You could to the Essaouira - Taroudant route but it is MUCH longer. You could do Essaouira - Agadir - Taroudant and even on to Ouarzazate but it would make for a LOT of time on the road.
