Can you wear singlets in Morocco?

Hi.

I (a male) will be in Fes and Marrakech in mid June next year and was wondering if it is acceptable to wear a singlet while walking around?

If not, is one of those T-shirts with no sleeves ok or should I stick to a T-shirt. I thought it might be too hot for a full shirt.

Also is it ok to wear shorts around and to a bar or cafe for dinner.

We will not be going to anything fancy.

Cheers.

Is a singlet typical Aus attire?

I suppose it's ok (shorts too) but if you do go into cafes and restaurants I hope you will dress accordingly although Moroccans would probably be too polite to show you the door if you went into a half decent restaurant.

I wear a T-shirt around town but alwys dress for dinner.

Some people do go around Marrakech in shorts and skimpy tops (although I prefer not to do it myself) but I would not go to a restautant dressed like this under any circumstances. Morocco is not the Costa del Sol!

Singlets and shorts are beach wear. There are no beaches in Fez or Marrakesh. In cities, cover the armpits and the knees: tee-shirts or linen shirts, and long cotton/linen trousers are best.

Thank you for the replys.

I wouldn't dream of going out to dinner in a singlet.

Just during the day but that seems not on.

Thanks again.

Cheers.

Remember Morocco is a Muslim country and while tourists are seen to be wearing about everything you can imagine (and some that you can't), dress should generally be a little more conservative than your normal. Having said that, Moroccans are very tolerate and will accept just about anything other than nudity. But I recommend you respect the culture of the country you are visiting and dress a little more conservative.
