Buying a car in morocco and the details that go with it

I'm going to Morocco in September this year for 3 months and am looking into buying a vehicle. Any information on buying a car, getting insurance (if necessary), selling a car would be much appreciated.

If buying in Morocco is too difficult, does anyone have info or opinions on buying in Spain or Portugal and driving in? Does insurance from Europe cover you in Morocco?

Thanks

You can't buy in Morocco, you would need a resident permit which clearly you wouldn't be. Spain is only slightly easier, you'd need to get an NIE tax registration, then another document from your local town hall.

Yes, it is right. I wanted to buy the car some year ago but it was not possible, need to be resident. But if you have some friend you trust so he can buy it for you. Anyway it can be a little difficult to sell back then. So it would be better to buy and then sell in Spain.

But maybe if you rent the car for so long time, you can got good price? In such case you skip possibly problems with the car etc.

Far better to try and negotiate a long term deal from a car rental company.

If you were to get a friend to buy a car for you, you would not be able to register it in your name (per Tim's note about lack of residence card), but you would have to get your friend to write you a letter of authorisation to use his or her car (quoting your name, nationality, passport number, car make and registration number, etc.), and have this letter notarized, and carry it with you at all times in case you are stopped by the police and asked for your documents. Unlike in the UK, insurance here is on the vehicle rather than the individual driver.
