Driving from fes to erg chebbi

We are planning on renting a car in Fes and driving to a tour in erg chebbi. We would prefer to drive straight through and not stop for sights in order to save time. Typically what time do the overnight camel treks begin? Since we presumably need to spend a night in a hotel upon arrival is it worth driving nonstop? FYI we are planning on stopping and taking our time on the drive to marakesh.

You would not drive non stop Fes - Erg Chebbi, it is far and on the way are places worth to see, it is nice countryside so it would be pity to only rush through.

Camel trek begin around now maybe later than 18.00, in any case about 2 hours before sunset.

We were there in early January and our desert trip started about 3:30 p.m. We did the drive from Merzouga to Fez in one day stopping for lunch & fuel only - it takes a full day (9:30 a.m. to about 6:30 p.m. for us). Depending in priorities sacrifices must be made,

Yes, in January may be start earlier because the sunset is also earlier. But every time the camel trek starts about 2 hours before sunset so you reach to be inside sand dunes just so you can admire the sun hiding behind sand dune.

So in Winter camel trek begin earlier than in the Spring and so on.
