Trip advice From Marrakech

Hi

We fly into Marrakech and intend to go to Essaouira and then north up the coast to Tangier to go into Spain.

Would like to visit Ait Benhaddou, the gorges, and the desert around the Erfoud/Erg Chebbi and Merzouga region

Plan A : Can we do this by public transport from Marrakech or maybe stay in Ouarzazate to do it, or would it be easier to do it on a two day tour

Cheers

you should plan a minimum of 3 days and ideally 4 (or even more!) for the roundtrip from Marrakech to Merzouga and back - it can be done by bus but self drive is the best option, you could also join a tour group.

Thanks Nibrika

We only have a month in Morocco and would also like to stay in Marrakech, Essaouira, El Jadida, Meknes, Chechaoun, Larache and Tangier as well as this side trip to the desert so we have to budget our time for each place plus travelling.

If we plan on staying a night each at Ait Benhaddou, Erfoud and Merzouga should we book in advance or can we find accommodation as we travel. We expect to be there in October..? We will consider a tour however as we have lived and worked in the Central Australia desert country, a camel ride is not a novelty for us and so not on our to do list.

Cheers

Don't bother staying in Erfoud - after Ait Benhaddou goto Ouarzazate and take the bus or grand taxi to Tinerhir (for Todra Gorge) and stay somewhere around there for the night.

You will always find somewhere to stay but obviously the best rated places might get booked up in advance.

Thanks again Nibrika

Please let me know if I have got this right

We can take a bus or grand taxi from Marrakech to Ait Benhaddou - stay o'night

Next day Ait Benhaddou to Tinerhir via Ouarzazate - stay o'night

Next Tinerhir to Merzouga - stay o'night

Last leave Merzouga to go to Essaouira via Marrakech (overnight Marrakech.....?)

Is that doable......?

Cheers

the trip back from Merzouga to Marrakech is too long so better to go:

marrakech - tinerhir - merzouga - ouarzazate/ait ben - marrakech - essaouira
