Day trip: Ait Benhaddou or Kasbah de Toubkal?

We are going to spend in a couple of weeks time 4 days in Marrakech. Mainly we would be spending time in the city, however we are flirting with an idea of a one day trip just to see something else as well? We got two great suggestions: Ait Benhaddou or Kasbah de Toubkal - but we cant decide which one sould worth it... what do you think? Anybody has experience of travelling these two? Thnk you in advance!!!

Kasbah du Toubkal is not actually a tourist attraction, it is a hotel - but it is situated in Imlil which is my favourite place to visit in the Atlas Mountains, so if you are looking for mountain valleys and walks then that is the best option.

Alternatively you will see some mountain scenery enroute to Ait Benhaddou but the main attration there is the ksar (castle/fort) which is a world heritage site, however it is a lot further from Marrakech so best done as an overnight trip

I don't know about the Kasbah you mentioned, but we loved Ait Benhaddou. It is a lot of fun to wander around and there are good views from the top. It looks quite cool as you view it from a distance. Apparently some people feel it isn't 100% authentic because it had some work done to it when it was used in a film ( famous from several movies) and the work was not totally historically correct. I could not tell where or what the work was though. Also, there is an incredible place to stay within Ait Benhaddou which is non-electric, super cheap, very atmospheric and romantic. Wherever you choose, make an effort to get out of the city. Morocco has a lot more to see that you can't see from inside Marrakesh.

Unfortunately Ait BenHaddou is not what was once before. Now it is much touristic, many hotels around and even many shops inside ksar so it destroy much not only appearance but even feeling is not the same like before. Probably Telouet would be more worth to visit than Ait BenHaddou now. Or this Kasbah du Toubkal would be nice to stay over and enjoy the surrounding.

Kasbah du Toubkal is definitely the better option for a day trip from Marrakech. Apart from anything else, Ait Benhaddou is too far away, a round trip of about eight hours, to make it worth your while.

Besides, the mountains are so accessible from Imlil, there is so much more that you could see. If you did decide to stay overnight, you could very easily organise a short trek with Kasbah du Toubkal and head over Tizi Mezzik to its sister accommodation, Azzaden Trekking Lodge, for a night.
