I post this enquiry to Morocco section, as got no satisfactory reply from UK section.

We are travelling to Morocco me and my husband, from Europe via London Gatwick airport. The arrival and catching a connecting flight are on the same day. I have no problem, my husband is a holder of Moroccoan passport, and he might need a transit visa.

So far have received mixed info from the British Embassy visa dept.- , he might get a stamp at the airport, or the officer at the immigration might NOT give him a transit visa (they need a proof of flights, etc whatnot), that it is in his descrition to decide this matter..

Have any of you Moroccoan passport holders travelled through London and what did you do about transit visa?

thank you!

Here's the rules: http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/howtoapply/infs/inf20transit

You could cross your fingers and try to get through without a transit visa (no guarantee), or you could apply for a transit visa.

Hi,

As a Moroccan passport holder, an Immigration Officer may decide to let your husband pass through the UK on his way to another country without holding a visa. This is known as 'transit without visa' (TWOV) providing he can prove:

1. That he is normally and legally living within the European Community

2. He has a valid common format residence permit issued by an EEA state under Council Regulation (EC) number 1030/2002.

3. Arrive and leave by air within 24 hours and have no intention of staying in the

4. Have a confirmed onward booking that will leave within 24 hours of your arrival in the UK.

Hope this is of help

Cas

Thank you both for you kind advice.

Believe all the documents he has should be then sufficient. Residence permits for 2 different European countries (EU), permanent home, ticket to Morocco for the same day.

To obtain beforehand this transit visa is time consuming, costs the same than a half leg flight and goes via Swedish authorities!

Cheers!

Hi again,

Just one more thing you husband should be aware of is that upon arrival to Morocco, passport control and immigration officers would ask him to produce his National Identification card in addition to his passport.

If you need a visa and don't have one, you cannot do it and any attempt would be illegal.
