Night train Fes to Marrakesh

Our hotel in Fez has kindly offered to book us a sleeper (what does sleeper mean exactly in this case?) on the night train leaving 2.30am arriving in Marrakesh at 10.10am. Has anyone used a sleeper on this train? And what do do until 2.30am?

The answer is: not much. Unless your hotel is kind enough to allow you to wait there until near the time of your train departure, your only real option is to wait it out at the train station.

The "sleepers" are bunk bed compartments, which are shared (4 to a compartment). They are ok as far as overnight train accommodation goes but certainly nothing approaching luxurious.

My advice is to take the early (6.50) train to Marrakesh and just spend that last night in Fes in your (hopefully) comfortable hotel bed.

The last time I took this train it was not a sleeper service, just a normal express train.

If you do intend to take this train, double check that it is actaully a 'sleeper' service, if that is what you require. Whereas your hotel is saying sleeper they may just mean that it is a night train. The Moroccan Railways site, www.oncf.ma does not show this train as having sleeper compartments (couchettes).

As Chano indicated you may be better off just taking the 06.50 or even 08.50 service.

As Ibrahim said, it might not be a sleeper train. We were in Morocco in 2007 and we had the same problem then. We had to ask for an extra night at the hotel then take train in the morning.
