Dar Roumana guides?

We rarely use guides when traveling. However, Fes will be our first stop in Morocco and we have read that it's medina can be particularly confusing so we thought we would consider a guide for our first day. Our hotel, Dar Roumana, indicates that with 24 hours notice they can arrange a guide for either one-half or full day. Has anyone had experience with guides arranged by this hotel and do you recommend one-half day or full day? I know that any guide will be taking us to some shops -- whether we ask them to or not -- and while I understand this to be inevitable, if the longer guided period is mostly just more shops, we would want to avoid that.

As you first stop in Morocco, Fez (in particular the medina) will offer a real other world experience. It is useful to have a guide on your first day and then do some independent exploring on the following days.

This hotel is a reputable establishment so you should not have any problems any guide that they recommend. Just be clear with the guide that you don't want shopping, he will be used to this request, and if there are some specific sites/places that you want to see tell the guide this.
