Fez to Sevilla

How can you get from Fez to Sevilla in a day. What is the best way to do it - Ferry and train? Where and how?

This could be very tricky to achieve, due to the fact that trains and ferries are often not on time. You may have to consider spending the night in Tarifa, and in fact that would be my advice. Then you could catch the morning bus to Seville.

However, here goes the theory:

1. Take the 07.10 hrs train from Fes to Tangier - you would need to change trains once - arriving in Tangier at around 12.30. (Website: http://www.oncf.ma/PrixEtReservation/Pages/BilletsNormaux.aspx)

2. Take a petit taxi from the train station to Tangier town port.

3. Take the FRS ferry which departs at 14.00 hrs and is due to arrive in Tarifa at 16.00 hrs local Spanish time.

(Website: http://www.frs.es/home-area/fahrplan.html)

4. Take the bus leaving Tarifa at 17.00 hrs arriving in Seville at 20.00 hrs. (Website: http://www.tgcomes.es/horarios_33_english.htm)

If this plan went like clockwork, you would be fine, but experience tells me that the ferry will probably not leave or arrive on time, in which case you have missed the last bus to Seville.

It's true there is an earlier train departure from Fes (around 2 a.m.) and certainly a later ferry from Tangier to Tarifa, but you certainly would not make the bus connection.

Anyway, I wish you luck on your travels.

There are also a couple of night bus options from Fes to Tangier. This would probably mean you would make the 12.30 bus departure from Tarifa to Seville. Here's the Moroccan bus website:

This is not intended to be an attack on our friends across the pond, but why is it almost invariably Americans who are looking to do the impossible distances in one day?

Travel is slow and timetables tend not to be followed. As Tony Wheeler (founder of Lonely Planet) now receommends, "Fly less and stay longer."
