Dress code at finer restaurants

Will a dress for my wife and nice slacks and shirt suffice at most restaurants in Marrakech? Are there any that require/expect jackets for men? Thanks.

On the other hand - are nice jeans OK in most casual dining restaurants?

Hi,

Most restaurants, you mean mid range? There are so many tourists in Marrackech that , most of these restaurants tolerate such attire. On the lower end of the scale, I noticed that people even had shorts on and sandals. That was what I observed when I was at one of the big restaurants on the main square ( I forgot the name).

On the other spectrum, there are some nicer places which dressing up is highly recommended. I went to, Le Tobsil, one of the nicer restaurants in Marrackech and noticed that there was no jacket required. However, since it is a nice restaurant, why not dress up a bit. The ambience is quiet romantic. I also noticed there were lots of Europeans there and they dressed much better than American. The night that I was there, there were lots of swiss and they dressed very well. I did not see anyone wearing jeans. I noticed some of the women had jacket on. At the same time, it was january so the weather was more forgiving. I am not sure when you will be going to Marrakech, make sure the clothes are hot weather appropriate.

A dress for your wife and nice slacks and shirt for your should suffice. If you feel like dressing up a bit, it won't hurt. That way will help you fit in the crowd.

Thanks wanderlust - we'll be in Marrakech 24 April-2 May. Thanks for your advice - I'll bring a sports coat just to be on safe side. Any other recommendations on nice restaurants with a la carte menus?

Hi

Just returned - went to Marakechi - just off square. Resteraunt excellent, they have set menus with 3 or 4 courses. We paid £40 ish for the 3 course each with wine. Could eat it now!!

The Argana is excellent as well for good basic food overlooking the square. Meal there about £12 for 2.

Try the following ,

Jad mahal

Le Comptoir darna

Touganna

Grande Poste

Rotonda

Le Tanjia

Fondouk

In my opinion Argana is crap with rude staff !!., and no alcohol served.
