Is it standard practice for riads to ask you to email your credit card details to secure a reservations, I've just done that and am a little worried.

I would also not be very happy emailing credit card details. When we take a reservation, we ask for a bank transfer which is safer. It is standard procedure to ask for a deposit however, to secure the booking.

Bank transfers are costlier. There shouldn't be a problem with an establishment asking for a credit card to guarantee a reservation, it happens all the time and all over the world. Make sure you have read and understood the cancellation policy of the Riad and whether they will be charging you a deposit or if it is just in the case of a cancellation/no-show. Fax them the info or send the info broken up into separate e-mails.

I've just done a bank transfer with Barclays and it coat me £20! I'd rather have done an online secure booking.

Quite normal in my experience - it's for their protection if you don't turn p. Just don't e-mail the details; phone and give them or in the worst case, fax them.
