First Time Morocco - 2 Girls

Hi we are coming for 5 nights (4 days). Always wanted to go but feel a bit concerned about safety etc. Staying at La Mamounia (special occasion) Can anyone please recommend a great 4 day itinerary?? Obviously will want to include a Hamman too :O) Maybe some cool rooftop bars or cafes? Tanneries? Day tour????? Whats the best way to see the souks and the main square as I believe its a little like a maze and one can easily get lost!!!! PS. Are there many mosquitos about????? Will it be Ramadan in August??? Any advice much appreciated. Thanks all

well for a start as the days will be very hot maybe staying around the pool would be nice.

your hotel is most likely the best in town and has a hammam on the grounds.

I am sure your hotel will have many day tours available , though I am sure it will be more expensive then getting same tour elsewhere.

it is a decent walk to the medina and a very short taxi ride.

As the days will be very hot 40 to 49 degrees and still hot at night ( you never know though but i would plan for fried egg hot)

you should be quite safe. Plus Ramadan will be over.

there are plenty of bars in the Guiliz (near the carre eden mall) and near the Menara mall area.

both malls are air conditioned so a good place to spend an afternoon.

as to tanneries if you like the idea of going to a sewage plant in 50 degree weather , go for it ( for me i would stay as far away from that stench as i can)

as to seeing the souks maybe get up very early and hit then at 7 am or 8 am , or after sundown.

if you get out early when the palaces and sites open , other wise pool side with a cold drink might be best.

as to getting lost in the souks there are many signs with arrows pointing to la place or just ask anyone and they will point you to la place ( the main square, where you will want to go)

bring bug spray as mozzies are around , maybe less so in the heat.

invest in a good guide book.

La Mamounia should be fabulous! Obviously it will have spa-type treatments, but for a real experience I'd recommend you try a local hammam, see https:/…31638269

+1 for the guidebook. There are several Marrakech-specific guidebooks, for example, https:/…178657036X

La Mamounia is actually within the medina and a short walk to the main square.

Don’t just ask anyone in the souk to help, you’ll end up paying a suddenly unfriendly young man.

Have a look at the top questions and use the search box, there’s plenty of information already posted.

+ 2 for a guidebook.

Ramadan ends next week so you'll be assured of grumpy free people!

Hammam de la Rose in the Medina at Bab Doukala quartier is a truly nice experience. Pay 700 dhms for the full special package of relaxation and pamper and you won't be disappointed.

It's a splendid place for ladies and families.

At night for some live music visit African Chic around midnight or boogy the night away till 5am at Club 555.

Marrakech is awash with Hammams and nightclubs and I have cited just a few.

Sorry, I meant la place and the souks not the medina, as the hotel if just inside medina walls.

There is also a casino on the grounds and some of the nicest gardens in town.

I am envious.

Thank you for the advice :O) I have invested in the Lonely Planet Morocco book also. Think 4 days is enough as we could stretch to one week????

August will likely be hot hot hot, so you might appreciate an overnight in the mountains or on the coast, either of which should be appreciably cooler (though still hot).
