4 days in Marrakech (28th sep)

Hello everyone,

Me and my hubby are going for a relaxing short break in Marrakech at the end of the week.

we have already booked flights (ryanair from Luton) and hotel (sofitel quartier de l'hivernage).

Can anyone give us some info about what do expect weatherwise (different websites with different opinions), what is it like to go there during Ramadan (any cultural no-no to avoid, can we still get food during the day?), and maybe some nice restaurants and places to visit or places to avoid..

Thank you!

Mariness

Just returned from a trip south which included a few days in Marrakesh. Weather was hot, but not unpleasant. Given what was on offer you wouldn't even know it was Ramadan with the exception of the sunset call to prayer which marks the end of the fast, in which practically no one was on the street. Turned out to be the best time to wander around the medina, though most shops were closed. You will have no problem whatsoever finding restaurants open. In the new town we ate at a nice French place called Kanzamane (otherwise known as Chez Pascale. Café des Artistes is another good restaurant choice in the new town for lunch. Places that served alcohol normally, continue to do so in Ramadan. One evening we had a drink on the gorgeous terrace of the Café Arabe to watch the sunset.

Ate dinner one night in the djemma el fna which is always a hoot as long as you don't encounter overly aggressive hawkers, and one night in the Jardins de la Medina which was the best meal of our trip.

The weather is currently around 25degrees in the day and cooler at night. There is a possibility of rain.

It's nice here during Ramadan. Some cafes and restaurants are closed, however there are still lots of places open in all of the main areas, and your hotel will operate as normal. During this time it is polite to cover your shoulders and knees when outside the hotel, and don't eat, drink or smoke in the street. Sunset is currently at about 6.35pm. From about 6pm to about 7.30pm don't expect to find a taxi - as everyone is going home to have the breakfast meal. In the evenings Jemma El Fna can be very lively!

There are lots of nice places to eat. Near to your hotel there is Amentis, Comptoir and Jad Mahal. In Gueliz there is Grand Cafe de la Poste and Catanzaro (among others). Then, of course, Jemaa El Fna food stalls and cafes. Enjoy your holiday!

Hi,

cold at night. You will need a jacket. During the day tho clima is ok. Why Sofitel???? Much more better a riad. Hotels like Sofitel are without soul. You will find to eat without problems. I suggest you some restaurants with a nice atmosphere:

- La Maison Arabe

- Casa Lalla

- Cafe Arabe

- Bo & Zin

- Al Fassia

The Comptoir is good for a drink after dinner.

Cheers
