I went to a presentation at the Travellers Club in London last night given to the British Moroccan Society by Richard Hamilton, author of the above book.

Richard explained the long oral tradition of storytelling around the world and how it has lasted into the present time in Morocco. He then went on to explain how the book came about, the difficulty in tracking down the last of the storytellers, the logistics of recording and translating the stories and then went on to give some short readings from the book.

Richard related that he had sent a copy of the book to King Mohammed VI and was surprised and delighted to receive a personal letter of thanks from the King, in both Arabic and English.

It was an absolutely fabulously interesting evening and I was also pleased to meet Alan Palmer, author of another Moroccan book on trekking, which I often recommend to people.
