Is it possible to find ferries on the spot or do you need to book them earlier on? Have the ferries from Gibraltar ceased to exist?
You usually don't need to book ahead, though during the months of July and August, particularly towards the beginning and end of these months, there's more volume of traffic but if you aren't bringing a car you should be ok. The Gibraltar-Tangier ferry, if it is still running, is on Fridays only. Best bet is Tarifa or Algeciras.
FRS is the operator of ferries between Gibraltar and Tanger.
Yes their ferries do only operate late on Fridays for departure from Gib to Tanger and on Sundays for Tanger to Gib.
The operator FRS has the following website for timetables, booking and other info:
The FRS site for Gibraltar does not show timetable or have access for booking from Gibraltar. You need to contact their agents Turners Tele Gib 78305. The Friday sailing is normally extremely busy during July/August. you would be well adviced to pre-book through the agents for that crossing. The return sailing is on a Sunday evening, but check with the agents as I have also sailed from Tangier on a Friday afternoon with them, I do not know if they still do that though). If you are sailing across from Spain, as a footpassenger you should be able to sail without prebooking, or that has always been my experience. There are several companies that operate out of Algercias port, so you do have a choice plus if you find that the FRS service is the 1st boat sailing then they operate a free bus service from Algercias to Tarifa
