I'm booking guest house for next year in la digue and the owner wants 50% deposit and my credit card details, is it normal? should it be less than that?

Bit much i think , i'd book through a tour operator or travel agent - then you've a bit more protection too.

Book it through a tour operator, you'll save money, time and that worry that comes from an unbonded trip. I'm not advocating any particular company, but seriously, it is the way to book.
