First timers in South Africa

Hi all,

i am planning a trip with my family in January, and our age range is between 20-60 yrs old. So a family of 6 people. We have decided that we want to go to cape town for shopping, Sun city for fun, and some lodge in Kruger park and we'd love to see the Victoria falls. But we have no idea where to stay or how to go about this trip. Where to start!?!? Since i am planning the trip i'd really like good luxurious hotels and lodges. And i love animals, so would love to have unque experiences. PLEASE HELP!

Thanks for

Ask your agent to look into the safari lodges and camps operated by AndBeyond. They lower their rates for the last 3 weeks of January and have splendid luxury properties in several locations around the country.

In fact, their camp at Madikwe, the Madikwe Safari Lodge would be a very short transfer from Sun City - andbeyondafrica.com/luxury_safari/south_afri…

As for Cape Town, you might fit well into the Romney Park Suites. They have both 2 bedroom and 1 bedroom suites - which might be perfect for your family. - http://www.romneypark.co.za/

I think a bit more information would help us - how long is your trip going to be ? What sort of budget are you looking at ? Just for example, a lodge in a private game reserve bordering Kruger National Park can vary from ZAR2000 to ZAR15000 (£166 to £1250) per person per night. Also for Vic Falls you would have to fly from Johannesburg to the Falls, depending on whether you wished to stay on the Zimbabwe side or the Zambia side, You would be involved in another flight either from Johannesburg to Cape Town or if you went to Kruger NP you could either drive to Kruger or fly to Kruger then another flight from there to Cape Town. Next thing - you could either book a return flight London-johannesburg-London or London-Johannesburg amd then return Cape Town to London. So you will see that South Africa is a big country and with your outline plan would involve several flights or long drives. With plenty of time (and money) you could certainly work out an itinerary for an amazing trip but you wouldn't be able to do it all in say 2 weeks.

As per the advice above, we would need more information from you, especailly concerning your budget. Cape Town, Kruger & Vic Falls all have a variety of accommodation establishments, which vary considerabely in price, so for us to make more specific recommendations, we would need to have an idea of your budget for the trip.

A possible itinerary could be:

Fly into Johannesburg, road transfer to Sun City

Sun City: 2 nights

Back to Johannesburg, fly to Cape Town (plenty of low cost domestic airlines that service this route - you can book your tickets on

www.kulula.com

www.flymango.com

www.1time.co.za

www.flysaa.com

Cape Town: 4 nights

fly from CT direct to Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport, Nelspruit (MQP) - book this ticket on www.flysaa.com

2 hour road transfer to your safari destination in the Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve, which is part of the Greater Kruger National Park (no fences between them & Kruger)

Safari: 4 nights

Road transfer back to KMIA, fly to Johannesburg (www.flysaa.com or www.kulula.com)

Depending on flight times, you may have to overnight near to the airport in Johannesburg, to be in time for a connecting flight to Vic Falls (Zimbabwe) or Livingstone (Zambia) the following morning.

Vic Falls: 2 nights

fly back to Johannesburg
