Help - Where should we stay in March with baby and toddler

Hi,

Myself, wife and 1yr old and 3 yr old are planning a 2 week or so trip to South Africa from March 1st but not sure where to go. My thinking is Cape Town, wine region, garden route and Addo with possibly a few days more in a beachy place, but not sure if that would be the best bet with the kids. I'd like to see a lot but also make it easy for us too. My other dilema is as the little ones are in bed by 7.30 I dont want to stay in a dark hotel room all night. Google searches for toddler travel doesnt throw up much answers. Good self catering or small hotels where we could sit on the porch and hear the infants if they wake would be ideal - but you cant tell that from a website! Any ideas or suggestions would be very much appreciated?

In Cape Town I would look at staying in Camps Bay.

I would really look at Pine Lake Marina as a place on the Garden Route. It is on the largest lake in South Africa.

The cabanas have a stunning view are very, very nice and at R421.00 (35 pounds) for all 4 of you, they are very good value for money. There is the cheaper option, but they don't have the view. You have a choice of a restaurant in the complex or self-catering, which is nice with toddlers.

In Addo, the rondawels and the safari tents have the best view. Both of them only sleep 2 though. Some of the chalets have a good view, enquire when you book. All will have a balcony.

Thanks for that it looks great.

With regards Cape Town, we were thinking of staying in the suburbs so as to get self catering and garden etc possibly pool. Do you think Camps Bay maybe better overall? I thought it would be Hotel City type of place?

I think it is fairly suburban, but I don't know Cape Town that well, as I am not a city person.

My personal choice from years back would be a B&B in Hout Bay, but I am not sure what is available. Maybe a B&b in Constantia (wine area) would be better?

I agree with lamlee, Camps Bay is quite nice.

see:

but you can also stay in the Gordon's Bay area - all is close to the beach (and Strand, the warmest swimming beach) + the winelands, Cape Town...
