The best time in our spring. Oktober, november, the weather is good and the bishes are not in full leaves already. Self drive in Kruger park is the best options for a budget one.

Hello there!

Wonderful, well you are in the right place for help!!

First of all, if wildlife and the safari experience are your priorities, I would highly recommend the Kruger National Park. It is world famous for a reason, with over 146 different species and an area the size of Wales, can you believe!

There an abundance of options regarding tented camps, it depends how old your children are and what your specific budget per person per night is. You could either self drive as mentioned above, and stay in the public Kruger in self catering SanParks accommodation (not a wide variety of tented camps there) or you can stay at a private reserve part of the Greater Kruger area. This means that they are connected to the public Kruger via unfenced borders, so the animals can walk in and out as they please. The rate at a lodge/tented camp in a private reserve includes all meals, 2 game drive a day, accommodation, tea/coffee, optional bush walks, and sometimes drinks too.

Private reserves can vary from a little but to a lot more expensive than SanParks accommodation.

If you could perhaps suggest a particular budget, we may be able to offer some inside guidance :-).

All the best,

Unfortunately I feel that there are actually not enough tented camps in the private reserves that form part of the Greater Kruger National Park! 2 good options to consider though, are Simbavati River Lodge and Ngala Tented Camp. Simbavati is lower priced. Ngala has a pay 3 , stay 4 night special offer which does help to lower the price of your safari. Both these lodges are in the Timbavati Private Game Reserve and offer excellent game viewing.

For me, best time to go on safari would be between May - September when the day time temperatures will be warm and sunny with cooler evenings and early mornings and not much chance of any rain to interfere with your safari activities. As this is during the winter/dry season, the bush is also less dense, which of course makes spotting the animals a lot easier.
