Dream Safari Trip Itinerary

OK, big birthday, actually big birthday for myself and a couple friends, so . . . trip of a lifetime, though I am hopeful this will want me to come back again and again!

Unless someone talks me out of it, I think a Southern Africa trip is right - - a mix of an incredible city - - Capetown - - with some amazing safaris, then perhaps Kruger and the Falls, and Botswana or Zambia or whatever . . . I'm no expert! The problem is, the more I read the more I get confused . . .

We want classy, around 2 weeks, willing to pay but not Micato prices, say 10-12ish. What do you think tripadvisor friends?

Is it the South or the East?

Is it too late for a trip in the fall?

Whats your idea for the most productive and fun iteinerary?

Any and all thoughts are welcome and appreciated!

You can have a Micato type trip without the hefty price tag! Are you planning a trip in April/May? If so, this is a great time to come to South AFrica. I would definitely include Kruger Park at a nice upmarket Lodge, fly by Fedair to the lodge. Then from there fly to Cape Town and spend at least 4/5 nights in Cape Town. But before you go to Kruger Park, i would include an extension trip to Victoria Falls, stay at the Royal Livingstone for 2 nights and maybe if you have time, spend another 2 nights in Chobe. You can have a really classy trip!

I asked Tanya Kotze, of Africa Direct, to plan my dream safari, and she did an outstanding job. I plan to use her again. See my trip report here tripadvisor.com/…47407562

Seeing that this your birthday, why dont you organize that you spend that day in the bush, where you can have a birthday breakfast especially for you and your friends in the middle of the unspoilt African bush. Or an evening "Boma" dinner under the stars by candlelight. Or you can spend you birthday in Cape Town, having "High Tea" at the Mount Nelson Hotel. Then spend the rest of the day at the Twelve Apostles Spa with magnificent views, having spa treatments then end up with a spectacular dinner on the Waterfront.

You can see that asking for help with a 'Dream' trip hasn't drawn much help. Lyn's suggestions are all good.. but the amount of work involved to put together the whole itinerary for a dreamer is considerable. It would help us all to know more about when you want to go, how many of you there are, if you have seen lodges, areas, hotels - in your research so far - that caught your eye.

Hi there!

Sounds like an amazing trip. completely understand how confusing it can all get, and instead of becoming more clear when one reads more, it gets even MORE overwhelming! Luckily, we are all here to help :-).

Out of all the 'safari destinations' ,I would absolutely recommend the Kruger above them all. It is world famous for a reason, and the natural home of safaris. With over 146 species including the Big 5, the game viewing there is outstanding.

Also, there are options to suit every budget and every group.

When staying in a lodge, you rate includes;

- all meals

- tea/coffee

- dawn game drive daily

- dusk game drive daily

- optional walking safari daily

- depending on which lodge, all beverages and laundry is also included.

There are many different private reserves (reserves connected to the public Kruger via unfenced borders) within the Greater Kruger Area that can cater to your needs; the Timbavati, Klaserie, Balule, and Sabi Sands.

Do you perhaps have a budget in mind per person per night? This will help us to suggest the best places for your needs, wants, and of course - budget :-).

All the best,

Jacqui

It is confusing, when you have all the options available, but avoid trying to include too much. Decide on say, South AFrica, which includes Cape Town, Kruger and Johannesburg, then perhaps an extension to Vic Falls which has Botswana (Chobe) included. If you have an itinerary from the other operators such as Micato, it is very easy to offer the same kind of trip, but include your special requests and likes.

Vic Falls is worth a visit, my well traveled guests have said it was the best they had seen. Then you will get a very different experience in Chobe with game viewing. You can also have an extension to Okavango, the lodges there are amazing. So thats my suggestion. But, you need to decide fairly soon, because September is the best game viewing month and bookings have to be made including charter flights to Kruger and Okavango.

Why dont you check out the Micato website to get some idea. They have exactly the kind of trips you want, but you can do it at a better rate.

My idea of a dream itinerary with two weeks' time- Cape Town, safari in the Sabi Sands, and some time in the Seychelles.
