Car rental - Insurance

I wonder if insurance covers damage done by animals?. Let say you go to a safari and a rhino hits the car with the horn. Would insurance cover?.

Does full insurance exist in SA?. My credit card or car insurance does not cover car rentals abroad. TIA.

Have no idea about animal damage...but we rented for several weeks from Thrifty and took the highest level of coverage. We lost a hubcap and it was covered. All roads were much better than we anticipated but the insurance was comforting just the same!

Individual companies insurance may vary but if you check the full Terms and Conditions of the company you renting from you will find an "Exclusion Clause". This will usually contain a paragraph something along the lines of - "except when damage is the result of a collision NOT (my capitals!) involving another vehicle, person or animal" So damage caused by an animal should be covered.

SA car rental insurance is normally Collision Damage Waiver and Theft Waiver - so any damage resulting from a collision or theft should be covered, subject to the usual "negligence waivers". This type of insurance should not be considered as Comprehensive Insurance where ANY damage (subject to negligence waivers) is covered.

The terms "Full" - "Super" - "Standard" and similar terms merely refer to whether there is an "excess" payable or not.

Just make sure that the package that you take with the rental company is secured and covered. So that you know where you stand, just in case.
