iPad and other electrical appliances

I would like some information on charging my iPad in SA if I need a converter or just a plug adapter. Also on other appliances such as blow dryers? Camera chargers? Cell phones? I think that I may need a converter for some and others just an adapter?

your appliance should tell you.

Most are just in need of an adapter.

Most electronics (phones, chargers, cameras, computers) these days are compatible with ~100-240 V and don't require a converter, only an adapter. Take a look at your chargers/plugs to see what they indicate. Hair dryers/blowers might be a different case (i.e., need a converter), however. You can always contact the places you will visit and ask if they supply dryers/blowers.

Mains voltage in South Africa is 220V 50 cycles.

US voltage is 110V, I believe.

Check your appliances, User manuals, for information regarding requirements

You can also get an adapter at any store close to your accommodation place. Even the Hotels and B&B's can sometimes supply without any hassle.
