3day/2night tour to Victoria Falls from Johannesberg

We are interested in finding a tour that includes air and hotel and guided tour of Victoria Falls that leaves from Johannesberg.

We have seen one from African Gateway Travel but can't find any reviews. Has anyone used them?

or

Does anyone have any experience or suggestions that could help us plan this short trip while in

SA.

Thanks so much

I can't help with tour companies, but just to mention that it really not necessary to book a guided tour of the falls. You can book flights (SAA to Livingstone) on line and if you stay at a nice hotel they will pick you up and sort out all your activities while you're there. The Royal Livingstone for example has a private entrance to the falls and you just walk down anytime you want. If you want to do a quick visit to the Zimbabwe side (which is worth it) they will help you with arrangements.

Hi Pathfinder44,

Anne is quite correct. Its easy to book this yourself. There are daily return flights to both Livingstone, Zambia and Vic Falls, Zimbabwe with SAA and Kulula/BA, and some wonderful accommodation options on both the Zambian side and Zimbabwean side although I think there are more options on the Zim side. The Royal Livingstone mentioned above is a great hotel on the Zambian side, with all activities and tours arranged from the hotel. There are many other hotel / lodge options as well, who will assist you with your activities as well as specialist adventure companies operating out of both ZIm and Zambia offering a whole host of different activities which can be booked in advance.

Regards.

Remember that if you go into Zambia you need to have had a yellow fever vaccination to re-enter South Africa. If you stay in Zimbabwe, you don't need one.

Sorry to jump in on this thread....if I want to go to VF, am I right in thinking I fly to Livingstone or VF? Would you suggest going for just one night or longer?

TIA

You fly to VF on the Zimbabwe side of the Zambezi.

A couple of comments - The Royal Livingstone is the best and most expensive hotel on either side of the Falls. You can stay next door at the Zambezi Sun for a lot less, and actually be a little closer to the Falls.

But I recommend the Zimbabwe side for the best views of the Falls. Remember that the water drops into a 300-foot gorge. On the Zim side, there's a paved walkway that parallels the face of the Falls - directly opposite - and from that long walkway little cul-de-sac walkways go out at intervals right to the edge of the gorge so you are face-to-face with tons of water roaring back at you. Spray, too! You will be drenched at certain times of the year when the water flow is at its greatest. Hotels on the Zim side close to the Falls would be Ilala Lodge, The Kingdom, Victoria Falls hotel. From any of these you can walk to the entrance to the Falls, pay your $30PP, and see them without the need for a Guide.

Speaking now of the tour company you mentioned - they very likely have strung together the elements of the package they are marketing, and all of the activities, tours, etc., will be provided by local operators at the Falls. In other words, unless they actually have an office there and their own staff involved, they will send you the vouchers and some contact numbers and you will be met and handled by a local Vic Falls travel company. Check the African Gateway site to see if they have their own staff at Vic Falls and that will give you a clue to their real involvement in a package such as the one you have seen.

Forgot to ask if November is a good time to visit the falls?
