1 ton of pangolin scales from South Africa seized in Hong K.

Just discovered this when reading African Geographic. Didn't realise pangolins were being poached/sold on such a large scale. They are harmless ant eaters and now getting wiped out!

Posted June 4 2014.

'Hong Kong Customs authorities have seized just over one ton of pangolin scales from a shipping container which arrived from South Africa. This is the second interception in Hong Kong of a shipment of pangolin scales from the African continent in just eight months, following the seizure of 320 kilograms of pangolin scales in October 2013.'

Pangolins weigh 'up to 18lb'. Lets say half weight are the scales. 9lb=4.09kg. Hence, 1 ton= 245 pangolins assuming all were full grown! Horrific how fast these harmless animals which eat ants are being wiped-out.
