Bad idea to do a budget camping safari in April?

I've just been researching safaris to the Northern circuit in April, with some operators reporting back that they wouldn't advise I go on a camping safari but instead stay at lodges.

My budget is pretty limited, so if I can save money by camping I will - but equally I don't want to have a rubbish time!

In April you should be able to get a lodge safari for just a tiny bit more than a camping safari. So why not do it? Besides, who likes camping in rain and mud?

Brian is right. The price differential should not be vast and the dry surroundings a comfort.

Having said that why not set off to camp but if the mood takes you just pitch up at a Lodge and see what an otherwise room will cost on the night?

You can always walk away and pitch your tent.
